Litigation for Liberation: Understanding Impact Litigation and its Relevance for People Living with HIV and Other People Impacted by State Surveillance, Violence, and Divestment

As our communities face ongoing attacks – including widespread defunding of HIV research, care, and prevention and increasing carceral punishment targeting people living with stigmatized health conditions – attorneys, advocates, and people with lived experience are collaborating on proactive legal strategies. These efforts require that legal experts respond to community leadership, build relationships based on trust and accountability, and leverage personal narratives to drive change.

Join CHLP and our Team ATAC partners at GLAD Law, ACLU, and the LGBTQI+ Rights Clinic at Northwestern Law’s Bluhm Legal Clinic for an introductory conversation about the role of impact litigation in our resistance against surveillance, divestment, and criminalization. The webinar will offer an accessible overview of key legal concepts followed by a discussion with experienced litigators led by people living with HIV about best practices for partnership in impact litigation.
