L4BL Power Building Tour
Law for Black Lives is stopping in New Orleans this October as part of its The Power Building Tour to convene local organizers, movement partners, and legal workers to examine New Orleans' organizing landscape and envision how a movement-aligned legal infrastructure can best support local organizers and movement organizations in their continued fight for liberation on an ever-changing terrain.
CHLP is a grounding partner for this event, along with The Black School, Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center, The Promise of Justice Institute, and Ubuntu Village. CHLP Executive Director S. Mandisa Moore O-Neal will be in attendance at the roundtable discussion and the training.

Roundtable Discussion: Building Local Power to Meet the Moment
A critical roundtable discussion and community space designed for reflecting on the local political landscape and relationships between movement organizers and lawyers, exploring local challenges, legal needs, and roadblocks to liberation, and unearthing what accountable legal support can look like in this moment.

Training: Strengthening Relationships & Community Defense Infrastructure
The training. covering Community Defense Infrastructure, will introduce and/or refresh core principles of power building through movement lawyering, with a focus on strengthening the relationship between lawyers and organizers, and supporting organizing efforts from Know Your Risks Trainings to fortifying community organizing infrastructure.

This gathering is an opportunity for movement lawyers, legal workers, organizers, and movement actors to come together in community to connect with others in the ecosystem, ground ourselves in the relationships that make this work possible, and share in joy. Light food and refreshments will be provided.

In response to this moment of rising authoritarianism and emboldened white supremacy, Law for Black Lives is embarking on a year-long, multi-city Power Building Tour.
