The sponsor of California State Assembly Bill 1576 has offered amendments to the proposed legislation removing state-mandated STD/HIV testing in the workplace for performers in the adult film industry. Citing legal, policy and fiscal concerns The Center for HIV Law and Policy, the HIV Prevention Justice Alliance and the Positive Women’s Network-USA had opposed passage of any bill mandating such testing as a condition of employment. With the elimination of the mandatory testing provision the organizations will now adopt a neutral position on the bill.
CHLP fights stigma and discrimination at the intersection of HIV, race, health status, disability, class, sexuality and gender identity and expression, with a focus on criminal and public health systems. As part of this work, we support movement building that amplifies the power of individuals and communities to mobilize for change rooted in racial, gender and economic justice. We do this through legal advocacy, high-impact policy initiatives, and creation of cross-issue partnerships, networks, and resources.
