HIV Criminal Law Reform, Before and After: Iowa, CHLP (2020)

This resource provides a concise overview of the implications of Iowa's 2014 reform of its HIV-related criminal law. The state of the law pre-reform is outlined, specific changes are explained, and a description of how people living with HIV and others could still face criminal liability is provided. Advocates nationwide are often very interested in the results of reform in states that have previously "modernized" their HIV laws, and this resource is intended to provide that information in an accessible manner. It also contains valuable analysis for people in Iowa, including an objective view of the law as well as a sense of who remains at risk and how individuals can protect themselves from prosecution.
