The Innocence Project, a national litigation and policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people, hosted a discussion on the rights of LGBT and HIV-affected people at the intersection of immigration and criminal justice systems. As part of this discussion, CHLP addressed how efforts to criminalize HIV-affected people negatively affect immigration protection and relief. Iván Espinoza-Madrigal, CHLP's Legal Director, discussed strategies to counteract HIV criminalization, and explain how proposals for overhauling the broken immigration system should be informed by the experiences of LGBT and HIV-affected immigrants.
