Have You Been Harassed for HIV? The American Independent Wants to Know. (2012)

Todd Heywood of The American Independent recently investigated and published the story of a Michigan woman who was interrogated about her HIV status during a traffic stop by a police officer who admonished her for failing to disclose her HIV-positive status when pulled over. There is no state or federal law that requires this. In fact, federal law (e.g., the Americans With Disabilities Act) prohibits this kind of offensive treatment of people with disabilities, including HIV.

The American Independent is interested in hearing from more people who experience harassment or other types of discrimination based on their HIV (and other people's ignorance about it). If you are willing to take your experience public, please email American Independent Senior Reporter Todd Heywood at [email protected]
