CHLP’s Positive Justice Project to Present on Women and HIV Criminalization at SMART in East Harlem (2014)

The Center for HIV Law and Policy (CHLP)’s Positive Justice Project (PJP) is presenting “Women, HIV, and Criminal Law: Understanding HIV Crimin- alization and Addressing Challenges” tomorrow, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at a meeting of SMART (Sisters Mobilized for AIDS Research and Treatment)’s SMART & SASI program. SMART is a community-based HIV treatment education organization run by and for women with HIV. Its SMART & SASI program develops and hones participants’ leadership, communication, and advocacy skills.

PJP’s presentation will provide an overview of HIV criminalization in the United States and New York State, and will discuss ways the women of SMART & SASI can support efforts to bring an end to laws and policies that subject people with HIV to arrest and increased punishment on the basis of ignorance about the nature and transmission of HIV.

This event will take place Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 12pm at SMART at 307 E. 116th St. in East Harlem. For more information, contact Adrian Guzman at [email protected]
