CHLP's Sean McCormick will be presenting at the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Ohio Chapter Annual Conference. The presentation, Understanding and Reducing the Threat of HIV Criminalization and Other Carceral Tactics within Social Work, will be presented with Naimah O'Neal, MSW LSW.

The first part of the session will be an introductory presentation on HIV criminalization in Ohio, including its origins, scope, and features. The remainder of the presentation will explore the role of social workers in reducing or eliminating HIV criminalization. The presenters will describe efforts to support the social, medical, and legal needs of someone accused of an HIV criminalization offense, detail their work to inform and empower people living with HIV through their social work practice, and engage in coalition-based advocacy to decriminalize HIV. The final portion of the session will be audience questions and information sharing.
