Louisiana Abortion Fund: Resisting Criminalization

CHLP Executive Director S. Mandisa Moore-O'Neal joins the Louisiana Abortion Fund for its first Resisting Criminalization community symposium on June 19. Mandisa's plenary talk will be a conversation across movements around criminalization in the South, ways to keep ourselves and our communities safe, and strategies to regain protections and rights.
This symposium brings together experts from various fields to understand and interrupt the experience of criminalization due to health choices and outcomes. Drawing on collective expertise from organizers, community members, advocates, and policymakers, this conference aims to address the criminalization of medical decisions, reproductive care, pregnancy outcomes, and ecosystems of care in Louisiana and across the Gulf South. Panels, presentations, and workshops aim to clarify the intersections of criminalization and public health and strategies to prevent increased surveillance and harm for our shared community. The symposium will feature a healthy mix of grassroots-level and advocacy interventions to criminalization, as well as opportunities for shared generative conversation and collaboration.
