What does it mean to practice through a Black Queer Feminist lens? CHLP's Jada Hicks and Sean McCormick will join Law for Black Lives for their webinar, Black Queer Feminism 201: A Case Study. They will discuss CHLP’s work to challenge HIV criminalization and examine who bears the brunt of these laws and how it compounds existing systems of racialized and gendered policing.

This case study will bring us into a deeper study of Black Queer Feminism by exploring HIV criminalization and the ways the criminal legal system intentionally targets Black women and other marginalized people living with HIV. The case study will focus on the use of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to challenge HIV criminalization. We will explore CHLP’s work challenging Tennessee’s aggravated prostitution law, which elevated an otherwise misdemeanor prostitution offense to a felony for people living with HIV and imposed additional consequences, including sex offense registration.
