Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit
CHLP Staff Attorney Sean McCormick will be presenting at NMAC’s 10th Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit (BHPS) in Chicago, April 8-10, 2026.
HIV criminalization: a public health threat that health professionals can address
Although cooperation between health professionals and law enforcement has amplified the harms of HIV criminalization, health professionals also have mitigated its impact by supporting and educating patients and pushing for organizational and legislative policy change. The session will explore the scope and harms of HIV criminalization and emphasize the role of health professionals in lessening HIV criminalization's impact. Through a moderated discussion, participants will receive useful resources and networks that will assist them in advancing HIV decriminalization work.
