Across Borders: HIV Criminalization and Migrant Populations

The People's Global Action on Migration, Development & Human Rights, an independent civil society and grassroots people's event held in conjunction with the 2013 United Nation's High Level Dialogue on Migration & Development, will host a workshop on HIV titled, "Across Borders: HIV Criminalization and Migrant Populations."  This workshop will feature CHLP Legal Director Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal.

The workshop will focus on the rights of HIV-affected people at the intersection of immigration, health care and criminal justice systems. The panel will explore strategies to "modernize" current criminal law application to HIV; and facilitate a discussion on current strategies and resources available to protect HIV-affected migrants and mobile populations from forced deportation and exclusion from essential HIV services. This event will be held at the Church Center of the United Nations at 777 UN Plaza (Hardin Room, 11th Floor), on October 2, 2013, at 1:30 PM.
