Gender Issues

Gender issues should inform HIV advocacy at every level. Gender inequalities - reflected in socioeconomic status, traditional gender roles, and domestic violence - can prevent women living with HIV from accessing adequate care and maintaining their well-being. HIV also disproportionately affects those who do not conform to traditional gender norms; transgender persons face substantial barriers to care and prevention due to stigma, discrimination, and the threat of violence.

This HIV Policy Resource Bank category includes materials that discuss and analyze gender issues and HIV, including gender and gender identity discrimination, health care access, domestic violence, sex work, harm re- duction, and reproductive health.
